Paint chips, Buttons and Rick Rack

Streamers are a staple when my children's birthdays come around.  Just a little way to make the kitchen feel a little more festive for the special day.  This year, I added handmade banners into the mix.  The goal is to be creative, add a fun whimsical touch and not spend a whole lot in the process.

A May birthday got a special cupcake liner pom pom banner...

For a June birthday, I gathered a few paint chips in beachy summer fun colors, some rick rack that was in a box of trims that my girls had scored at an estate sale, added some fun buttons that were a gift from a friend and voila...

Mixed in with a few extra wedding flowers from the previous week...

we had a pretty festive display!

Gifts waiting on the table when they wake in the morning, dinner out and cake at home is all part of the celebration too.  Many years there is a party with friends added into the mix as well.  Our kids love the traditions that have been incorporated through the years.  What kinds of traditions do you like to incorporate at birthday time?

A neighbor shared his favorite flower with me.  It was a perfect addition to our kitchen corner window display.

A daughter collected some fading blooms from a dahlia farm where I was cutting for an upcoming wedding.  While I worked on wedding arrangements, she was busy doing her own decorating in our home.

Regardless of color, style or container, the goal is always to...
